PSV furious about goal against: ‘I’m sick to death of this’

PSV lost 2-1 to Ajax on Sunday afternoon. Despite the fact that more than 100 minutes of football was played, it was only about one moment afterwards. According to the people of Eindhoven, the second Amsterdam goal should have been rejected.

Captain Marco van Ginkel was clear in front of the ESPN cameras just after the game. “It’s outrageous. You can see that the ball is over the line. I don’t understand how VAR doesn’t see this. I am sick to death of this.”

Trainer Roger Schmidt was already furious at the Arbitration on the field. He yelled to the fourth official that they might as well give the bowl to Ajax already. He responded in a calmer tone afterwards. Though he hadn’t changed his mind.

“I am level with the linesman. I’m sure the ball was out. I saw it myself. I was already surprised that he didn’t flag but I was counting on the VAR. It is unbelievable that he does not intervene.”

Cody Gakpo spoke to the media defeated. The attacker also had little understanding for the decision. “I don’t understand why the goal is approved. Even the players of Ajax said after seeing the images that the ball had crossed the line. It feels so unfair.”

Mario Götze echoed the words of his trainer and teammates and added an additional complaint. “It’s obvious, isn’t it? Look at the images. It is very difficult to accept this.”

“It was a frustrating game anyway. There was so much talking in the field and hardly any football. It’s nice that there is still nine minutes of injury time, but that didn’t help.”

Finally, referee Danny Makkelie also reacted to the incident at the 1-2. He defended the decision of the VAR. “There is no camera image that provides 100% certainty. You have to take into account that the ball is round. So a part can still touch the edge. But I admit it looks like the ball is over the line.”

“I have to rely on my linesman and the VAR. The linesman says the ball is still in and the video referee cannot give a definitive answer. So the 1-2 remains.”
