Province contributes one and a half tons to redevelopment Café Nachdwacht Zwartemeer into homes

The province of Drenthe wants to make 150,000 euros available for the redevelopment of café Nachdwacht in Zwartemeer.

The former catering point, the last historic building on the Eemslandweg, has been empty for several years. Owners Joop Knol and Carmen Kuhl want to give the former tavern a second life.

The intention is to renovate the front part in the old style with an eye for history. The former banquet hall at the rear will make room for three affordable owner-occupied homes. In addition, four rental apartments are being built. The houses are intended for young people and the elderly.

Contribution

Deputy Henk Brink is pleased that the province can contribute. “The building is in very bad condition, and this process has accelerated since the closure of café De Nachdwacht around 2020. I am happy that we can contribute to the preservation of the building.”

Knol and Kuhl also plan to keep part of the old café. Residents and tourists will soon be able to go there again for a cup of coffee.

living room

For almost a century, the village pub on the corner of the Kamerlingswijk and the Verlengde Hoogeveense Vaart faithfully served as the living room of the peat village. Carnival, wedding or just a party: for many Zwartemeerders it was a reason to step over the threshold at the renowned pub with great pleasure.
