In the 2nd league, Hamburger SV is experiencing the next long break in play after protests against the DFL. Referee spokesman Feuerhardt explains how the referees should basically act.
For referee spokesman Alexander Feuerherdt, abandoning games in the federal leagues due to fan protests against investor involvement in the German Football League (DFL) is still the last option.
“We said, first of all, there is the normal interruption. A second stage should be to go to the sidelines with the players and wait and see what can be done. Third stage would be to go into the dressing room. And the ultima ratio, The ultimate ratio would be to abandon the game,” said Feuerherdt on DAZN before the Friday evening Bundesliga game between Borussia Dortmund and SC Freiburg.
Both the BVB game and the second division duels between Hamburger SV and Hannover 96 (3:4) and SV Wehen Wiesbaden against 1. FC Nürnberg (1:1) had to be interrupted on Friday. “There is a certain amount of leeway for the referee. The top priority is always to actually bring the game to an end,” said Feuerherdt.
In Hamburg, some supporters from the HSV’s north curve managed to lock heavy bicycle locks on the posts of a gate. The locks could only be removed using a power cutter. Objects also flew onto the field.
In the block of 96 supporters, banners could also be seen with the inscriptions “CVC & Blackstone puppets of Saudi Arabia’s sportswashing”, “Consistent action in the face of personified threats of violence” and “Game interruption now”. Three portraits were also shown, each with a crosshair, including the head of 96 boss Martin Kind.
