Problem lift Meppel makes victims again: twice in 24 hours

The lift at Meppel station has made victims twice in the past 24 hours. Last night around 7 p.m. a girl alerted the emergency services because she had nowhere to go in the ‘problem lift’ in Meppel, this afternoon two boys were trapped.

A problem with the elevator is discovered on a regular basis, whether or not due to vandalism. Almost two years ago, ProRail reported a decrease in disruptions after installing cameras, but lock-ups still occur every now and then. This was the case in Meppel in March and February this year.

The girl who was locked up last night was freed by an attentive passerby who came to the rescue. Today a mechanic jumped in and got the elevator working again after some repair work. The deployment of the fire brigade was therefore not necessary.

It is unclear why the elevator failed twice in a short time.
