Private clinic helps Jeroen Bosch Hospital to catch up on operations

In order to catch up with the large backlog in hip and knee operations at the Jeroen Bosch Hospital (JBZ), the Bossche hospital has sought reinforcement from a private clinic. Patients are given the option to undergo surgery in Orthoparc’s clinic, rather than in the hospital. This shortens the waiting time and they don’t have to deal with complaints for as long.

Due to the corona crisis, regular care was at a standstill. Corona care took precedence, so that eventually about 50,000 people from Brabant waited at home for treatment or surgery. This went in all kinds of degrees, from oncology to orthopedics.

The outpatient care is now reasonably back to the pre-crisis level, but the operations are still lagging behind.

Operations
In December, at least 30 percent of critically plannable care was at a standstill. These include, for example, kidney transplants, chemotherapy and other cancer operations.

This care is now fully up to scratch. Only many files of orthopedic care, for people waiting for a new hip or knee, are still on the shelf.

Treatment in the clinic
That is why patients on the waiting list now have the option to be treated in the Orthoparc clinic, which is located in Rozendaal in Gelderland, in Lelystad and in Bosch en Duin in Utrecht. They can be operated on there earlier than in the hospital in Den Bosch.

It is estimated that 300 surgeries can be performed at Orthoparc until April 1. The pre- and aftercare still takes place in the JHA.
