Portugal breaks heat record with 47 degrees: “Warmest day in July ever measured” | Abroad

It is very hot in Portugal at the moment. Half the country is currently living in “code red” because of the heat. On Thursday, the districts of Santarem and Leiria (near Lisbon) reached 45 degrees, but in Pinhaõ it would have been two degrees warmer, with a temperature of up to 47 degrees. More than 2,700 firefighters across the country are fighting 27, 11 of which are major, wildfires. At least 130 people have already been injured.

In 2017 there were also particularly severe forest fires in Portugal, in which more than 100 people lost their lives.
