Polar bears back at the top of the DEL

The Eisbären Berlin have regained the top of the table in the German Ice Hockey League (DEL).

The capital club beat the Augsburger Panthers 6:5 (2:1, 3:2, 1:2) on Thursday and replaced the Fischtown Pinguins Bremerhaven in first place, who beat defending champions Red Bull Munich 2:1 in the parallel game (0:1, 0:0, 1:0, 0:0, 1:0) after a penalty shootout.

Austin Ortega gave Munich the lead after 18 seconds, Ross Mauermann equalized (47th). Ziga Jeglic finally scored the decisive goal, but the success was not enough. Because in Berlin, the vice world champions Marcel Noebels (16th) and Jonas Müller (30th) as well as Patrice Cormier (17th), Zachary Boychuk (36th/39th) and Jaedon Descheneau (42nd) shot the polar bears back to the Great.

However, Adler Mannheim, who have recently been in crisis, are still on the road to success. Head coach Dallas Eakins’ team beat the Löwen Frankfurt 3:2 (1:1, 0:0, 1:1, 1:0) after extra time and celebrated their third win in a row.

Runner-up ERC Ingolstadt won 2-0 (1-0, 0-0, 1-0) at Düsseldorfer EG. Meanwhile, the Iserlohn Roosters continued their negative streak. The bottom team lost 0:3 (0:1, 0:1, 0:1) to the Nuremberg Ice Tigers and suffered their fourth defeat in a row.
