Polish President Andrzej Duda signed the law “On the Defense of the Fatherland” informs office of the head of state. The document implies a doubling of the size of the Polish army – up to 300 thousand people (250 thousand professional soldiers and 50 thousand soldiers of the territorial defense forces).
Now the defense of Poland is carried out by 115.5 thousand professional soldiers and 32 thousand territorial defense fighters.
The country’s defense spending will be at least 2.2% of GDP in 2022 and 3% of GDP in 2023 and beyond. The document also simplifies recruitment for military service and increases the number of reservists.

Duda announced the need to modernize the Polish army. The new legislation will allow “to develop the armed forces in step with the times and in accordance with the needs.”
