Peter Gillis must close the holiday park in Lommel within a year

Peter Gillis must close his holiday park Het Blauwe Meer in Lommel, Belgium, within a year. This has been determined by the court in Belgium. The municipality of Lommel has been clashing with the reality star for some time because of abuses with migrant workers and poor quality of living in his holiday park. This is reported by Het Belang van Limburg.

The formal reason that Gillis has to close the park is that he did not renew the leasehold of the park in 2019. That is the rent you pay to be allowed to do business on a certain piece of territory. The city council of Lommel has seized this opportunity to file a lawsuit against the Brabander.

The court has now ruled in favor of the municipality of Lommel. That means that Gillis must close the park within twelve months. In addition, he must demolish buildings that he has built after 2019. They are there unlawfully, the judge ruled.

After that, he must transfer the holiday park to the municipality of Lommel free of charge. If Gillis fails to close Het Blauwe Meer within a year, he must pay a fine of 1,000 euros per day. Gillis can still appeal. “First we will study the verdict with my lawyer,” Gillis said.

The holiday park boss has also been under fire for some time in the Netherlands. Penalties had previously been imposed on him by the municipalities of Peel en Maas and Terneuzen, because he illegally accommodated migrant workers on his campsites there. And the municipality of Arnhem also prefers to see Gillis leave.
