Peter Dinklage has criticized Disney’s upcoming live-action adaptation of Snow White. So the representation of the seven dwarfs in the story is outdated. The ‘Game of Thrones’ star, herself short in stature, fears a stigmatizing portrayal of the ‘dwarfs’. A spokesman for Disney responded to the allegations.

“I don’t mean to offend anyone, but I was a little taken aback when [die Produzent*innen] were very proud to be a latina actress [Rachel Zegler] to cast as Snow White – yet they still tell the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” Dinklage said recently on the podcast “WTF”.

“What the hell are they doing, man?”

The actor continues: “It’s progressive in a way, but then they’re still telling this bloody wrong story about seven dwarfs living together in a cave? What the hell are they doing, man? Have I done nothing to advance the cause as a Representative? I don’t think I’m loud enough.”

Disney released a statement on the subject: “To avoid reinforcing stereotypes from the original animated film, we’re taking a different approach with these seven characters and have consulted with members of the short stature community. We look forward to releasing more details when the film goes into production after a long period of development.”

The Disney production team will therefore work with various cultural advisors. In the past, this was also the case with the live-action adaptations of “Aladdin” and “Mulan”.

Meanwhile, Dinklage also recently spoke for the first time about the controversial series finale of “Game of Thrones”: “People were just mad because nobody wanted that [die Show] ends. I know a lot of people said they were surprised by the ending, but if you were paying attention, the clues were there. We said you shouldn’t name your dog Khaleesi.”
