Walt Disney Studios have responded to sharp criticism from the short US actor Peter Dinklage (52) about a Snow White remake.

The 1.35 meter tall “Game of Thrones” star had accused the planned “Snow White” project of hypocrisy on Monday in the podcast “WTF with Marc Maron”.

The studio proudly revealed that they are progressive in casting a Latina actress as Snow White – “but then they still do the fucking backwards story about seven dwarfs living together in a cave?” lamented Dinklage in the interview.

They wanted to avoid reinforcing negative stereotypes about the original animated film, the Disney studio said Tuesday, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The seven characters would be portrayed differently, the statement said. They would also consult with representatives of the short stature community.

The musical remake is a live-action adaptation of the classic fairy tale “Snow White” directed by Marc Webb (“The Amazing Spider-Man”). The Disney Studio had already given the lead role of Snow White to Rachel Zegler (20, “West Side Story”), daughter of a Colombian, in the summer. “Wonder Woman” star Gal Gadot plays the evil queen.

Since 2016, Disney has been planning a live-action adaptation of the fairy tale by the Brothers Grimm about the beautiful Snow White, the evil queen’s stepmother and the helpful dwarfs. In 1937, the studio released its first full-length animated film, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs.
