Sitting in a cage, Arsen Melkonyan hid his face behind a makeshift banner. His likely accomplice and part-time son-in-law Arman Smabatyan is also in the dock. But Arman’s wife, Anush Melkonyan, is not behind bars yet, and she came to the hall of the central district court of Volgograd from home. All three became defendants in the case by an absurd accident. The conflict, which went beyond the scope of correspondence, ended in death for one of the participants.
It was Arsen Melkonyan, according to investigators, who delivered the fatal blow to the deceased Roman Grebenyuk. Roman was the father of a classmate of his daughter Anush Melkonyan (Arsen’s sister). It all happened in October 2020. An argument broke out between Grebenyuk and Melkonyan in the parent chat. The dialogue about the children’s progress quickly escalated into insults and threats.

Direct threats in the form of voice messages against Grebenyuk rained down from Anush’s husband, Arman Smabatyan. The conflict was not resolved peacefully. The enraged Sambatyan and his brother-in-law Arsen Melkonyan ambushed Grebenyuk and attacked him right in the branch of one of the banks in front of eyewitnesses. Melkonyan knocked his opponent to the floor and began to beat.
An ambulance was called by eyewitnesses, but they failed to save Grebenyuk. He died in the hospital a few days later without regaining consciousness. Arsen Melkonyan and Arman Sambatyan were immediately arrested. Anush Melkonyan remained at large. But it is possible that when it comes to the finish line, the handcuffs will close on her wrists as well.
It is Anush Melkonyan who is considered the instigator of the conflict. Allegedly, through her fault, her husband and brother dissolved their fists, and as a result, the daughter of Roman Grebenyuk was left without a father. The defendants in the case face from 7 to 13 years in prison. The prosecution requested the longest term for Arsen Melkonyan, who delivered blows.
