Although fewer people with COVID-19 were admitted to hospital on average every day during the weekend, the total number of hospitalizations due to the corona virus again reached the cape of 3,000. There were 3,039 corona patients in hospital on Sunday, 361 of which required intensive care. This is evident on Monday from figures from health institute Sciensano, communicated by the cabinet of Health Minister Frank Vandenbroucke.
726,401 tests were performed during the period January 14 to 20, of which 311,279 were found to be positive. The positivity ratio for Belgium rose to 42.85 percent.
During the same period, an average of 44,104 infections with the corona virus were diagnosed daily, an increase of 71 percent compared to the previous seven-day period.
On Friday 21 January, according to the unconsolidated figures, 54,585 infections were finally registered, on Saturday 22 January 18,805 and on Sunday 23 January there were 25.
