Otter is now really back in the Biesbosch: razor-sharp on camera images

The otter is back in the Biesbosch for the first time since 1960. A wildlife camera has captured the otter in the nature reserve several times. Much to the delight of Staatsbosbeheer.

Last year, nature lovers’ hearts beat faster when Lillian Lafleur from Uden made a video of a swimming otter. That video was fodder for discussion: was this really an otter? That could not be said with certainty.

Now that certainty is there. Sharp images from a wildlife camera show an otter in the Biesbosch. “It was in line with expectations, the tension increased and now the time has finally come. The otter is back in the Biesbosch. This species has more than earned a place in this great area,” Staatsbosbeheer writes on Facebook.

Since 2014 there are wildlife cameras in the nature reserve to record all kinds of animals. The fact that the otter can now be seen on images makes us happy. “Years of patience have paid off. How beautiful is this!”

According to Staatsbosbeheer, the Biesbosch is ‘pre-eminently suitable for the otter’ because there are sufficient hiding places, food and rest.
