Before the second Linkin Park concert in the Volksparkstadion, a police officer fired a warning shot. A driver drove around a barrier and endangered the officer.

The bang didn’t come from the confetti cannon: At the second Linkin Park concert in Hamburg on June 3rd, a police officer grabbed a gun. A driver ignored one of the barriers around the Volksparkstadion – a warning shot was fired.

Drivers going astray

Due to the large concert with around 50,000 visitors expected, several streets in the area of the Volksparkstadion were closed. While Linkin Park fans peacefully streamed towards the arena, complications arose before the show even started: A 36-year-old driver didn’t let the roadblocks stop him. He drove around a barrier and ignored police signals. When a police officer tried to block his path, the driver did not stop. The police officer had to jump out of the way and fired a shot – but into the air, just as a warning.

But the driver didn’t let this warning deter him. The police officer was slightly injured during his evasive maneuver and was taken to hospital by paramedics. The shot from his service weapon caused no damage. The police finally managed to stop the driver and arrest him.

No suspicion of terrorism

Concert-goers never had to worry: the driver’s motives have not yet been clarified, but the police have ruled out a terrorist motive, as NDR reports. The 36-year-old is now under investigation.

The anticipation of the Linkin Park fans was not dampened by the shot: according to the police, the audience did not notice the commotion on the street. Despite the hustle and bustle, an undisturbed evening of music took place in the Volksparkarena. Then only the confetti cannons popped in the stadium.
