On appeal, jail sentences of up to 23 years for mistaken murder of DJ

On Friday, the Amsterdam Court of Appeal imposed prison sentences of up to 23 years against three men for the mistaken murder of Amsterdam DJ Djordy Latumahina. This is reported by the ANP news agency. Tony D., who was previously acquitted by the court, has still been convicted for his role as the second gunman.

The defense counsel found on Friday that Tony D. is the second gunman and sentenced him to 22 years and 11 months in prison. D. was acquitted in 2018, because there was insufficient evidence for his role as the second gunman. The Public Prosecution Service appealed with new evidence: PGP messages from another criminal investigation and statements from an anonymous witness. He was sentenced to seven years in prison last year for his role in preparing the liquidation of the criminal Naoufal F.

Ulricht B. (48) and Wendel R. (50) were both sentenced to twenty years in prison on appeal on Friday, with which the judges have followed the sentence of the Public Prosecution Service. B. is seen as the driver of the getaway car and R. has played a crucial role in organizing the liquidation. In 2018, Djurgen W. was already convicted for his role as the first gunman. A few others were also jailed for their role in the liquidation. W. was sentenced to thirty years in prison and decided not to appeal.

On October 8, 2016, Latumahina was in his car with his girlfriend and two-year-old daughter when he was shot at in a parking garage in Amsterdam Nieuw-West. He died on the spot. His girlfriend was seriously injured by six gunshot wounds but survived the assassination attempt. According to justice, the perpetrators had actually targeted the criminal Gino M., who lived in the same apartment complex as Latumahina.
