Olympique Lyon signs Belgian talent Fofana – fifth most expensive move this winter

Olympique Lyon have secured the services of Belgian talent Malick Fofana. On Wednesday evening, the Ligue 1 club announced the transfer of the 18-year-old right winger from KAA Gent. Fofana signed in Lyon until 2028 and costs 17 million euros in transfer fee, to which a further 5 million euros in bonuses can be added. This makes the Belgian U21 international the fifth most expensive move so far this winter. In addition, OL secured a 20 percent profit share in a possible future sale.

Fofana has been trained in Ghent since 2014 and made his debut in the Jupiler Pro League at the age of 17 years, three months and 29 days. Since then, there have been 63 more appearances in which the right winger recorded five goals and ten assists. “Today is a very special day for me. Being able to sign a contract with a club like Olympique Lyon is a dream for a young player like me. After all these years in blue and white, KAA Gent will always remain the club of my heart. I would like to thank everyone in the youth academy who supported me. Thanks also to the fans, their support means a lot to me.
