As the Turkish top club Fenerbahçe Istanbul announced, the Italian 2021 European champion had arrived in Istanbul to undergo medical examinations and advance the transfer process.
The defender, whose contract with Juventus Turin was not extended in the summer of 2023, is hoping for more playing time with the Süper Lig leaders in order to possibly make it into the national team squad for the European Championships in Germany from June 14th to July 14th, 2024.
The 121-time national player also wanted to increase his chances of participating in the European Championship by moving to Köpenick in the summer. However, under the leadership of Union coaches Urs Fischer and Nenad Bjelica, the experienced defender only played seven league games and three appearances in the Champions League.
