The United States figure skating team is requesting the International Court of Arbitration for Sport to hand over the silver medals from the team competition at the Beijing Olympics.
The nine runners are appealing the decision to suspend the medal presentation because of the doping scandal surrounding Russian runner Kamila Valieva. This was confirmed by CAS Director General Matthieu Reeb of the French news agency “AFP”.
Valieva, 15, had won gold with the team at the start of the figure skating decisions in the first week of games. After the announcement of her positive doping test on December 25, the day after the competition, the medal presentation was canceled by the Executive of the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The CAS hearing is scheduled for Saturday evening. The Beijing Winter Games end on Sunday. The USA finished second in the team competition behind Russia, followed by Japan and Canada.
