The 2021 Tokyo Olympics bribery scandal is spreading.
The police arrested high-ranking organizing committee member Haruyuki Takahashi on Wednesday for the fourth time as part of their investigation because the suspicion of corruption against the 78-year-old has been substantiated.
In the new arrest warrant, the investigators accuse Takahashi of accepting further bribes from a mascot production company in the equivalent of more than 350,000 euros.
Overall, Takahashi is said to have already illegally channeled more than 1.3 million euros into his own pocket in connection with the games.
