Olcay Gulsen did not feel like participating in the praise about the late British Queen Elizabeth (96) in the talk show Khalid & Sophie yesterday. “I always thought she was freezing.”
Yesterday was a black day for millions of people: Britain’s Queen Elizabeth has passed away at the age of 96. In the evenings it was almost nothing else on Dutch television. Khalid & Sophie also had a table full of guests to talk about the legacy of the world-famous queen.
Olcay critical
Although it was almost clear during the broadcast of Khalid & Sophie that Elizabeth would die, the actual news only followed a little after 7.30. The talk show was then abruptly interrupted by presenter Sophie Hilbrand, as a result of which the main guest of the evening, Joop van den Ende, did not even appear at the table.
Sophie spoke about the British queen with Suse van Kleef, Barrie Stevens and Peter Brusse. And table lady Olcay Gulsen also voiced her opinion. She was the only one who didn’t have words of praise for Elizabeth.
‘icy woman’
Olcay made it very clear what she has always thought of Elizabeth. “What’s the secret of its huge popularity? Because I’ve always found her to be quite an icy, cold woman.”
There was a loud oooh yelling in the studio. Olcay: “Yeah, sorry, maybe I swear here in church.”
Barrie Stevens went on to explain that Elizabeth has served the British people for 70 years. Olcay: “No, that’s something else. That is respect for the woman. She is a professional, I completely understand that.”
‘She’s a tough one!’
Suse thinks that Olcay shouldn’t separate those things at all. “That makes her loved too, doesn’t it? There is a lot of respect for her sense of duty, for example.”
Olcay is the only one who spoke so viciously about the deceased queen on television last night. Even René van der Gijp was full of praise. He thinks it is unprecedented that Elizabeth received the new British Prime Minister a few days ago. “Then you are incredibly tough, aren’t you? Then you are an asshole.”
Criticism
Olcay’s statements have been criticized here and there. “You should not interpret the end of the era with Olcay Gulsen…”, Arthur tweeted.
Delta One: “That Olcay Gulsen doesn’t have an ounce of respect in her thunder, does he?”
And Loor: “What a miss, Khalid & Sophie. If you can’t get high-quality guests, it’s better to stop the broadcast.”
