Oh man! Remembrance of those who died early

The expressionist poet Georg Heym died 110 years ago in the icy Havel. Our reporter remembers a prematurely completed man who is resting on Fürstenbrunner Weg

The poet Georg Heym, whom I would like to remember, died 110 years ago.

In January 1912 he went ice skating on the Havel. His companion Ernst Balcke broke into Lindwerder. While trying to save his friend, Heym sank himself in the icy water.

The body of the 24-year-old first came to the Grunewald suicide cemetery. A little later she was buried in the cemetery on Fürstenbrunner Weg. After 30 years the position was canceled and the poet was almost forgotten.

Heym once noted in his diary: “On my tombstone there should be nothing but KEITAI. No name, nothing.” KEITAI is Greek and means he sleeps or he rests.

Much later, his wish was granted. I have to admit, I was not innocent of that. A lady and I donated the stone to the original burial site HI, 6.9/10 in 2009.

Since then, the revered poet has rested as desired.
