Protesters from University Rebellion will hold a protest at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) on Tuesday and Wednesday. During the so-called career days where companies introduce themselves to students, the demonstrators occupy part of the auditorium building. The activists demand that TU/e cut ties with the fossil industry.
The activists mainly have companies in their sights such as Shell, ING, Tata Steel and Allseas. The occupiers also demand more press freedom for the university magazine Cursor.
The University Rebellion demonstrators plan to take action for at least two days. They are supported by activists from Extinction Rebellion and Ocean Rebellion. The last group had one metal band taken to university.
Previous action
Just over a year ago, climate activists took an unannounced action during the career days. The activists occupied the university auditorium for days. Three demonstrators were arrested during the action. This time the promotion had been announced.
The activists then also demanded that the university cut all ties with the fossil fuel industry and declare a climate emergency.

TU/e says in a statement that it is fully committed to sustainability. The transition from fossil energy (oil, coal and gas) to green energy (wind, sunlight, hydropower) plays an important role in combating climate change and achieving a more sustainable future.
The university wants to achieve this by joining forces as much as possible, including with companies that belong to the fossil fuel sector. According to the university, new projects with these companies only relate to sustainable energy and sustainability.
