NRCEditor Wubby Luyendijk, head of the investigative editorial team, won the VVOJ Vliegwiel on Friday, an award that honors editors-in-chief and chief editors who stimulate investigative journalism.
Colleagues describe Luyendijk, as can be read in the jury report of the Association of Investigative Journalists (VVOJ), as “razor-sharp on the content, on journalistic ethics and on what the social task of NRC should be.” She is also “indispensable” in guiding colleagues.
Won in recent years NRC five times a Loupe, five times a Tegel, one VVOJ oeuvre prize and the European Press Prize. Luyendijk supervised almost all of these award-winning projects. She herself won in 2023 together with colleagues from NRC and Dagblad van het Noorden De Loep for her research into gas extraction in Groningen.
The Flywheel was created in 2019 and previously went to, among others, Joost Oranje (Nieuwsuur), Bjorn Oostra (The Limburger) and Karl van den Broeck (Apache, Flemish research platform). The prize is awarded once every two years.
