BERLIN (Dow Jones) — Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store, whose country currently chairs the UN Security Council, pressed for a diplomatic solution to the Ukraine conflict at a press conference with Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD). “We have a joint responsibility to find a solution here that does not have military logic in Europe,” he said, according to an interpreter.

Scholz explained at the press conference before a meeting in the Chancellery that current security policy issues that both worried them would also be discussed. “Of course I’m thinking first and foremost of the situation in and around Ukraine and further dealings with Russia,” emphasized Scholz.

Store went on to explain that “what we are seeing in Eastern Europe now is not what we consider normal” and underlined: “We do not want to use military means to solve political issues.” Norway shows solidarity in NATO and is looking for political solutions with the allies and their neighbors.
