Nordic combined: Este Ilves keeps his nerves in Seefeld – Nordic combined – winter sports

start-up shortening and interruptions

The jury initially reacted to the constantly changing conditions with short breaks and shortened inruns. When 17 of the 50 athletes still had to complete their jump, the competition was interrupted. For almost 25 minutes nothing went on the Toni-Seelos-Olympic ski jump – except waiting for better conditions.

Since it had cleared up and thermals were pulling up the slope, the jury went down another gate. Instead of hatch 13 we started from gate 10. The competition management tried to speed things up, but still had to send some athletes off the beam.

Ilves shows the best jump

Estonian Kristjan Ilves coped best with the conditions. His 104 meters gave him a lead of 40 seconds over his closest pursuer. That will be Terence Weber, who will be the first of the seven German athletes to start the ten-kilometer route (from 3:15 p.m. in the live center on Sportschau.de). He came to 101 meters. Julian Schmid (101 m/+56 seconds), Vinzenz Geiger (100.5 m/+56 seconds) and Eric Frenzel (99 m/+1:01 minutes) made it into the top ten and also still have a good chance of getting in front Placement.

Riiber with a clear deficit

The jumper who has dominated so far this winter and winner of the day before, Jarl Magnus Riiber, also managed 100 meters, but had problems with the jump and received deductions in the grades for posture. This put it in 13th place (+1:10 minutes).

Johannes Rydzek, the best runner in the field, has to build on his strength on the cross-country ski run again this time. Without wind support, he was already over at 90 meters. He starts the race 2:28 minutes behind.

Fabian Rießle showed a leap to oblivion. He was the first German starter and only managed 92 meters. That puts it at the end of the field.

The Seefeld Triple

A competition is held in Seefeld on three days in a row, with the running distance increasing from 7.5 to 10 to 12.5 km. One jump each time. The top 15 of each day receive bonus points that give them a head start on the next day. Whoever reaches the finish line first on Sunday is the overall winner.
