Merijn Scheperkamp failed to surprise at his first Olympic Games. The born Hilversummer finished twelfth on the 500 meters on Saturday. This made the 21-year-old the best Dutchman.
Scheperkamp crossed the finish line after 34.73 seconds. The race was won by Chinese speed skater Tingyu Gao. He set an Olympic record with 34.32. The podium was further formed by Cha Min-kyu (South Korea) and Wataru Morishige (Japan).
