No NS train traffic in the Northern Netherlands on the first of five strike days

In the north of the Netherlands, hardly any trains will run on Wednesday due to a 24-hour strike by NS staff. The first of a total of five NS strike days started at 4 a.m. It is expected that no NS trains will run throughout the day in Friesland, Groningen, Drenthe and parts of Overijssel and Flevoland.

The NS cannot use buses, and therefore calls on people to use other transportation or to postpone a trip. Arriva local trains will run from Leeuwarden and Groningen on Wednesday, and the Keolis train will also run between Zwolle and Kampen and Zwolle and Enschede. According to NS, train traffic in the rest of the Netherlands will not be affected by the strike. Trains that would normally go to the north of the country now return to Almere Oostvaarders, ‘t Harde and Olst stations.

NS staff will go on strike in the west of the Netherlands next Friday. Next Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday it is expected to be the turn of the north-western Netherlands (including Amsterdam, Haarlem and Schiphol stations), the central Netherlands (Utrecht, Gouda, Amersfoort) and the eastern and southern Netherlands (Arnhem, Breda) respectively. , Enschede, Maastricht and Vlissingen).

The NS employees are on strike because the collective labor agreement negotiations have broken down. On Friday, the NS rejected an ultimatum from the trade unions FNV, CNV and VVMC. These require, among other things, a one-off payment of 600 euros gross and a permanent monthly salary increase of 100 euros gross.
