No MXGP in Oss, research whether Berghem is possible

The municipality of Oss is currently investigating the possibility of moving this season’s Grand Prix Motocross to motor park Nieuw Zevenbergen in Berghem. Oss has to look for an alternative after it became clear last week that the municipality cannot issue a permit for a cross on the site of De Witte Ruysheuvel. The research is being conducted by Top Events, the organizer from Brabant.

The MXGP on the site of De Witte Ruysheuvel in Oss was a great success last July. Although there were restrictions due to corona, thousands of people still enjoyed the motocross event. However, that will not happen next season.

breeding season
This has nothing to do with corona, but is due to changed regulations. The municipality of Oss cannot issue a permit due to new regulations, for example with a view to the breeding season.

This poses a problem, because Oss concluded a five-year contract with the Brabant organizer Top Events last year. The municipal council is therefore looking for an alternative together with the company and is investigating this week whether that motor park can be Nieuw Zevenbergen.

Requirements
That circuit, and the environment, must meet a number of conditions for such an event. For example, there must be enough public and sufficient space for, for example, the paddock, the spraying areas and the VIP tents. All this must be approved by Infront Moto Racing, the promoter from Monaco.

“You can’t do this event halfway,” says Ebert Dollevoet of Top Events, who is leading the investigation into the new location. “It has to meet certain standards. This week we are going to look at the location. I’m curious how this will turn out.”

Logical choice
If the Nieuw Zevenbergen motor park is approved, Brabant stars such as Jeffrey Herlings, Brian Bogers, Glenn Coldenhoff, Kay de Wolf, Roan van den Moosdijk and Kay Karssemakers will still be driving a home race this season.

The date for the MXGP in Berghem has yet to be determined, but a logical choice would be September 18. There is nothing planned in the MXGP schedule yet, but it is the last race of the season. How nice would it be if Jeffrey Herlings could extend the world title in his own Brabant.

That is all a bit premature, because the organization will first check whether the event can take place in Berghem at all.
