“No entry guarantee” – Australia rebukes Djokovic

Next episode in the farce about Novak Djokovic’s refused entry to the Australian Open: The Australian government chooses clear words in a detailed response to the Serb’s objection.

Can tennis star Novak Djokovic stay in Australia and take part in the Australian Open? The immigration farce around the apparently unvaccinated world number one is to come to an end this Monday, then a court will decide which side is right: The Serb with his primary “special permit” – or the authorities with their step to reject this as inadequate and not to let the 34-year-old into the country.

Before that, however, the Australian government responded to Djokovic’s objection – in a 13-page document that was published on Sunday. Clear words in the direction of the “Djoker” are chosen – he is reprimanded with a clear announcement! The document says: “There is no such thing as an entry guarantee into Australia for non-Australians.” And further: “Instead there are criteria and conditions for entry, and reasons to refuse or revoke a visa.”

In other words: Australia reserves absolute freedom of choice in the end – and discretion about the reasons. Finally, another big pound: Even if Djokovic were to be right in court, that does not mean that he can stay in the country! “Ordering an immediate release does not preclude rescheduling if a basis for it is seen.”

It is expected with even more excitement how the court will decide on Monday. It is hard to imagine that the last word has already been said on the matter at hand …
