Offensive player Jae-Sung Lee from Mainz 05 has bought a ticket for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar with the South Korean national team. The team of Portuguese coach Paulo Bento beat Syria 2-0 (0-0) in Dubai on Tuesday and qualified for a World Cup finals for the tenth time in a row.

South Korea can no longer be knocked out of the top two places in Asian Qualifying Group A with just two games left.

Lee set up the second goal by former Freiburg player Chang-Hoon Kwon (71′). Jin-Su Kim had previously given the South Koreans the lead (53′).

Former Bundesliga professional Heung-Min Son missed the qualifier due to injury.

Last week, Iran became the first Asian team alongside hosts Qatar to secure their place at the World Cup finals.
