Alan Romero he is 26 years old. He is the youngest of four siblings who, with their parents, live in Barrio 31 de Retiro. He began to study Psychology at the Argentine University of Business (UADE) in 2015 thanks to the Becas Al Mérito, a program for young people with academic potential and financial difficulties. At that time, Alan was in contact with the Consciousness foundation, which suggested that he approach Pastoral Foundation and find out to apply to the UADE.

“When I was in high school, I wasn’t interested in finishing school, but one day someone from Conciencia came to talk to us about the possibility of scholarships and they assigned each of us a tutor to do a monthly follow-up. Basically they asked me to put the batteriesLaughs Alan.

“In the end it convinced me and I completed high school. Then they contacted me with the foundation of Father Guillermo Marcó, and they approached the UADE, but they clarified that there was an entrance exam. I was already happy to go to try. When you come from the village you don’t have anyone to tell you that you can. But I got a seven, and I couldn’t believe it, ”he continues.

He entered with a 150% scholarship: 100% coverage of all fees and a 50% plus to cover travel expenses and study materials. In 2017, while in school, he began working as an administrative assistant at the university. And in 2019 he took the stage of the Teatro Colón as an ambassador of the UADE-NEWS scholarships, on the occasion of the celebrations of the 30 years of the magazine.

A few days ago he took his last exam to become a psychologist, and at the UADE they hope that he will continue working at the University, helping new students. “I like vocational psychology, I like to spread that positive, resilient, and I would love to be able to start an NGO in the future to help other kids like me ”, he gets excited. “I am the youngest in the family, and the first to finish high school and have a bachelor’s degree. Before, I worked at the fair moving iron and selling things, “he says. “I never felt discriminated against, neither at UADE nor in the neighborhood. But they do charge me when they see me arrive in my pants and jacket. They tell me an entrepreneur, and ‘how do you do?’ And I explain that with effort ”, celebrates Alan.

“He is an ambassador of the values ​​that UADE represents: passion, improvement, work, commitment and honesty. He was always an example for his classmates and teachers and he knew how to rise to the challenge. We hope that in the future he will be one of the leading cadres of the University.
