For Berlin’s new interior senator, Iris Spranger (60, SPD), the topic is at the top of the to-do list: a new police station at Kottbusser Tor in Kreuzberg.
A new building is out of the question. Instead, the guard should aim high – to the gallery of the New Kreuzberg Center!
A few days after the Senate retreat at the end of January, the interior administration and the police sat down and presented the first plans. For “cost reasons” no new guard building is planned as on Alexanderplatz.
Instead, the former betting shop on the “bridge” across Adalbertstrasse is to be rented for the police.
It is the only property that “seems both suitable and rentable,” BZ learned from the administration. 250,000 euros were estimated for “upgrading” and 50,000 euros annually for rent.
► The new station is assigned to Section 53 on Friedrichstrasse.
► The guard should be manned around the clock by three officers.
► 20 positions have already been applied for. Directorate 5 should now draft a “requirements profile”. “Service staff who speak a foreign language” are preferred.
► The guard should be equipped with video cameras for their own protection. But there are also “attempts” to monitor the Kotti – a crime-prone place – also by video.

Today, at least, politicians are informed: the topic of the Kotti guard is on the agenda of the interior committee.
