New head of expansion comes from Kik

Mike Adams takes on the role of General Manager Expansion at Woolworth.

He will succeed Lennart Wehrmeier in May, who will leave the retailer in April, Woolworth announced on Thursday. Wehrmeier, who has been in this position since the beginning of 2020, is leaving at the end of the financial year “at his own request in order to face new challenges outside of the company”.

Wehrmeier was involved in the opening of more than 200 new locations and the expansion into Poland and Austria. His successor, who has been in charge of real estate at the textile discounter Kik, is to drive internationalization and the expansion of the branch network in Germany. Adams will be joined by Petr Marek from Kik, who will take on the role of Head of Expansion from November and will report to Adams.

Woolworth has ambitious expansion plans for the home market, where the branch network is to be almost doubled, and in other European countries, where the department store group sees potential for up to 5,000 locations.
