New Features: These changes are coming to WhatsApp in 2022

Better picture quality and more freedom with voice messages

The majority of Germans use the WhatsApp messenger service to communicate with friends, family and colleagues via smartphone. The meta group wants to polish this up properly this year and equip it with new functions that are intended to increase its user-friendliness and security. As BZ Berlin reports, an improved version of the notifications is currently being tested, which is intended to increase the clarity of the app. The profile photos of the sender of a new message should already be displayed in the notifications, so that you can see more quickly who the messages in the inbox are from. In addition, users should be given more freedom when listening to voice messages: while playing a voice message, it should be possible to read other chats and also to compose messages at the same time.

In addition, the problem should also be addressed that images always lose quality when sent via WhatsApp. The reason for this is that the messenger service is still reducing the size of the files to be sent, even as things stand today. In the future, users will be given the option of choosing whether to send the image in reduced form or in optimal quality at the cost of more data when sending it.

Emoji reactions to messages and communities

One feature that WhatsApp hasn’t had before, and that other messenger apps still have ahead of the top dog, is the ability to respond to messages with just an emoji. This is exactly what should be one of the new features that WhatsApp will be getting in 2022. As reported inRLP, the new function has already been tested in a beta phase, initially users should be able to choose between six different emoji reactions. In addition, one should be able to display who reacted to a message with which emoticon.

According to the WABetaInfo service, WhatsApp is also working on an update that will make the use of group chats much clearer. What is meant by this is a so-called community function, which should make it possible to combine several group chats. This would offer a benefit in terms of clarity and structure, for example, if, for example, there are several subgroups within an association through which the members communicate. In such cases, a joint assignment of all these groups to a superordinate community, in this case the club, would certainly represent a noticeable relief.
