New construction CBK Emmen more than 1.5 million euros more expensive

The construction of the brand new Center for Visual Arts (CBK) at the entrance of the old zoo in Emmen will cost 1.7 million euros more. The college of mayor and aldermen writes this in a letter to the city council. The CBK must be located where the Biochron previously stood.

The council asks the city council to agree to the increase in the budget for the construction of the new CBK, “otherwise the project cannot be carried out and the current layout will be maintained as a construction site”. 5.5 million euros was made available for the construction. If the city council agrees, this will now be more than 7.2 million euros.

“The effect of the price increase is so great that it cannot be absorbed by means of budget cuts within the project,” according to the municipality of Emmen.

The municipality attributes the cost increase to, among other things, higher construction and energy costs and more expensive building materials. The city council will decide on 29 September whether it will make an extra 1.7 million euros available for the new CBK.
