National team: Joshua Kimmich (FC Bayern) formulates a challenge: “Definitely needs to do something good”

2021 was a year of ups and downs for Joshua Kimmich. Despite the excitement about his corona vaccination status, FC Bayern’s midfield clearer has now been named national player of the year. The 26-year-old feels honoured, but also knows that there is still more to come in 2022, both at the club and in the DFB selection.

No question – in the German camp everything revolves around the Winter World Cup in Qatar in December. Kimmich is already looking ahead and takes his teammates to task.

“It’s about a world championship, and I would like to seize every opportunity that comes my way and use it as best I can, in other words: win the title in the end. We haven’t managed to do that the last few times, and it’s definitely important to make up for it here too,” he said Bayern star in an interview with “DFB.de” clear.

In general, the team of national coach Hansi Flick, who recently won seven games in a row, has “an incredible amount of potential, we finally have to put that on the pitch. We have to do everything we can to achieve our goals,” added Kimmich.

The development of the team and the last games have already shown “in which direction it can go and – I’m sure – it will continue.”

Joshua Kimmich has long been indispensable in the national team

Meanwhile, Kimmich was touched by his election as national player of the year. It’s “a really nice award because it comes from the fans, that’s an honor,” said the Swabian, who politely thanked the participants for their votes.

The Munich player can look back on 64 international matches for the DFB selection. The powerful all-rounder has been a fixture since his debut in May 2016 – initially as a full-back, now in defensive midfield. This has not changed after the change of coach from Joachim Löw to Hansi Flick.
