Museum has to temporarily close again

A bitter pill for the ModeMuseum Antwerp: The museum has to temporarily close again due to technical adjustments. After the end of the current exhibition program at the end of January 2022, the museum will be temporarily closed again, according to a press release. The closure will last until September 29, 2022.

The museum has to make structural adjustments to the air conditioning of the depots and exhibition rooms. Last June, during the last phase of the renovation, a technical problem was discovered in the air conditioning system. At that time, a short-term solution was worked out in order not to endanger the reopening and to be able to continue to display the objects responsibly.

“It goes without saying that my team and I are very disappointed with this news,” said Kaat Debo, director of MoMu, in the press release. “The museum found that the air conditioning quality requirements set at the start of the renovation were not met, so we take responsibility on this matter.

If we want to work according to the highest quality standards, we have to be sure that our infrastructure meets these standards.

We are taking advantage of this closure to be back in business with a rock solid program in the fall of 2022. ”

The MoMu shop, the MoMu café at Graanmarkt 13 and the library will remain open during construction work. The other tenants in the building, the Renaissance restaurant, the Copyright bookstore and the Antwerp fashion house, will also remain accessible. Due to the upcoming closure, the museum will have a number of late openings in January. On Thursday, January 13th and 20th, as well as on Saturday, January 15th and 22nd, the doors of the museum will not close until 10 p.m.
