The editor-in-chief of Novaya Gazeta, Dmitry Muratov, donated the Nobel Peace Prize awarded to him to charity. About this he reported portal Znak.com.

Muratov clarified that the money was distributed among the organizations that elected by voting among the “accomplices” – the readers who support the “Novaya Gazeta”. The total amount of the premium, according to him, was about 40.2 million rubles.

As a result, 5 million rubles each. was transferred to the children’s hospice “House with a lighthouse”, the “Give Life”, “Circle of Kindness” and “Vera” funds. Another 10 million rubles. transferred to the medical fund of media workers, which helps employees of various publications in the fight against serious illnesses.

In addition, part of the funds went to the production of a film about the state of the press in Russia and to give bonuses to some of Novaya Gazeta’s employees. “There is little left as a stash [для «Новой газеты»] “You never know what will happen,” added Muratov.
