The MSV Duisburg is about to return to league three. In the euphoria, the club was out of date in its choice of words – and then corrected the error.
At the MSV Duisburg Traditional Club, it couldn’t be better in terms of sport. The long -standing Bundesliga club won 3-1 against 1. FC Cologne II on Sunday and leads the table of the Regionalliga West confidently. In view of eleven points ahead of second place, the “zebras” can make the return to the 3rd division with only four outstanding games next Friday at the game in Mönchengladbach.
Probably somewhat in the exuberance of the upcoming return, the association made a contribution on the social media platform X on Easter Monday, which caused plenty of criticism among the users. A few hours after the death of Pope Francis, there was: “Habemus 1st place. Although there is no (blue) white smoke in sight, but so (football) God will hopefully be on the road in higher leagues.” In addition a screenshot of the table.
Apparently tried to make a reference to the Pope, which died in the morning at the age of 88. But it was not particularly well received by the vast majority of users.
The reactions under the post were clearly out: “But this is a bit tactless”, “absolutely not nice on this day such sentences”, “rather inappropriate” or “rethink the post again”, among other things, was read in the comment column.
The club’s social media department apparently took the criticism to heart and deleted the article shortly after the publication.
