MotoGP Dall’Igna Ducati boss on Marc Marquez: “Risk and opportunities”

The CEO on Radio Rai: “It’s right to help Honda and Yamaha with their developments, not the others who are already winning. New rules? Let’s lower the displacement, we have to arrive in 2032 with the same current performance or it will be dangerous”

“Having an eight-time world champion like Marc Marquez in Ducati is another potentially dangerous situation for the harmony of the structure, but I believe that in recent years we have learned our skills. We will have to be good at managing this situation, but we are well trained to do so.” Thus the general director of Ducati Corse, Gigi Dall’Igna, interviewed by the editorial staff of Gr Rai, on the Spaniard’s arrival at Ducati, who will be on the track in Valencia from tomorrow to test the Desmosedici of the Gresini team after his long experience with Honda .

In 2025 most of the contracts, including that of Luca Marini who took Marquez’s place at Honda, will expire and there is already talk of a Marc hypothesis on an official Ducati: “In my opinion the market always starts too early and it’s always too hectic. I would like to wait and make these important decisions with a bit of calm. Is there a risk of an abundance of young riders who can aspire to an official bike? Certainly yes, but the good riders it’s always better to have them at home, it’s an old rule that’s still valid. It’s that type of problem that we’re happy to solve.”

from the igna and the rules

“I think it is reasonable to give aid to those who are really in difficulty like the Japanese manufacturers (Honda and Yamaha, ed.), however I find it inappropriate to give aid to those who have won races this year or to those who come very close to it. It’s right to penalize us and help those who are already doing well”, underlined Dall’Igna, who has brought the Desmosedici project to levels of absolute domination in recent years. A new regulation will come into force from next season: “We have to think that the new regulatory structure will last until 2032. In these ten years, if we don’t put limits on ourselves, the speeds will certainly increase further and this could become a problem, because the circuits are not made to have bikes with these speeds. It seems right to me to intervene, the reduction in displacement seems to me to be an excellent solution. I expect to arrive at 2032 more or less with the same performance levels that we currently have”.

motogp and tires

Tires topic: their development must go hand in hand with the technical one according to the Ducati Corse number one: “The tires must be developed like all the other components of the motorbike. The tires are crucial for both safety and performance. I believe that in any case Michelin is doing an excellent job from a development point of view. In recent years – concluded Dall’Igna – tires have grown really a lot and having a single supplier certainly makes everyone the same”.
