De Wolf shows itself more in Drenthe. A new report from Bij12 shows that 146 wolven observations have been reported at the Wolveneldpunt, in the period from mid -October to the end of February. That is more than at the beginning of 2024, then 90 observations were reported.
On camera images, wolves were seen in Drenthe in that period, reports Bij12. That is the organization that makes the damage processes after wolven attacks for provinces. The other reports arrived thanks to damage reports, wolf droppings and dead wolves.
75 damage reports were received from Bij12 from Drenthe. In 72 cases, DNA analysis showed that the damage was caused by Wolf. That is about 40 times more than in the half year before.
The DNA analysis did not yield any results twice. In those two cases it was assessed that Wolf cannot be excluded. No DNA reduction was possible with one report. This file is still open for assessment. For most reports, sheep were the prey (68), but there were also reports about cattle (4) and horses/ponies (3).
Two packs are currently located in Drenthe, one in the Drents-Friese region and the other in Midden-Drenthe. In total, 11 descendants with DNA were established during this period, one of whom has been killed in traffic.
One descendant of the pack in Drents-Friese region has roamed for a short period through the east of the Netherlands. In about three weeks this wolf made a trip to the province of Overijssel and he returned to the province of Drenthe through the province of Gelderland.
From October 2024 up to and including May 2025, Drenthe carried out a practical test with mobile wolf -resistant rasters. The test was aimed at professional animal holders who regularly move their sheep and goats. 11 animal holders took part and 114 mobile grids were placed and tested. A new, multi -year practical test is being prepared based on the new insights.
