MORE THAN JUST A CASHMERE SCARF

Since the beginning of 2019, the Swiss entrepreneur Alexandra Somlo has been incorporating her ideas and creativity into the designs of EMAAL’s own cashmere scarves. The name is a fusion of Emma, Magda and Alexandra – the names of the founder and the two daughters.

The self-made woman is inspired by influences from all over the world. The architecture of the different cultures, as well as the colors and structures of nature, serve as a creative template for the collection. Each cashmere piece therefore bears the name of a destination and is as unique as the place itself.

The fine cashmere scarf “Oslo”, for example, reflects Norway’s breathtaking fjord and mountain landscape. The “Lima” model plays with the colorful traditional costumes of Peru. “Zermatt” pays homage to the mountain world of the iconic Swiss mountain village, while the “Berlin” scarf features trendy colors. “Isfahan” is reminiscent of the turquoise and light blue of the magnificent mosques of Persia.

Like an artist, Alexandra Somlo sees cashmere as a blank canvas on which ever-changing love pieces are created with colours, knitting patterns and cuts. The scarves are a purely natural product without mixed yarns or synthetics, which not only caresses the skin, but also touches the soul.

“For me, cashmere scarves are more than an accessory: they are carriers of a home spirit. Always ready to hand and easily stowed away, they transform even light outfits into a warm, secure feeling – at home or when travelling,” says the founder. As a passionate lover of scarves and shawls, however, the self-made woman felt there was a lack of variety and, above all, colors. Structures, fresh colors, sophisticated cuts: all of this was missing on the cashmere scarf market. A gap in the market was thus found and EMAAL Cashmere, with its unmistakable signature, was founded.
