The case came to light in July 2023 because the mother of the teenager was looking for her son. She found him with her ex-brother-in-law from Almere in a hotel in Hoogeveen. For a long time she suspected a debatable interaction between her son and the suspect. In the hotel room there were a good amount of drugs and casing in which the drugs had been.
