Former lawyer Inez Weski did not appear on Tuesday again at the now third session of the criminal proceedings that are being conducted against her. Weski was arrested in April 2023 on suspicion of participation in the criminal drug organization of her then client Ridouan Taghi. As his lawyer, she would have secretly smuggled groceries from the extra secure institution (EBI) into criminal henchmen of Taghi, who was sentenced to life imprisonment last year for liquidations.

Weski recently announced that he would appear in court for the first time on the current criminal proceedings against her. At her request, the location director was interrogated from the detention center in Zeist on Tuesday where she was locked up the first nine days after her arrest. Weski has described that place as “an underground bunker” where she almost died due to poor medical care. That detention would have been so unlawful that according to her, the Public Prosecution Service has lost the right to prosecution.

Weski wanted the interrogation of the prison boss by the court to take place completely behind the doors closed. After all, many questions would deal with ‘privacy -sensitive information’. On the eve of the hearing, the court announced that it would not close the doors. Weski has previously discussed her medical situation in a book and in interviews – then it would be strange to close the doors.

During a public treatment, in the presence of many journalists, Weski would “be too heavy,” said Carry Knoops, one of the four lawyers who appeared in the session on behalf of the suspect. Seventy -year -old Weski has serious heart problems and suffers from diabetes. Since her arrest, her health situation has deteriorated further.

Danger

The Weski lawyers asked the prison director 268 questions. Apart from a few incidents – such as hitches with the intercom and a cell door that was difficult to open – the detention went well according to the penitentiary design boss. Weski was locked up in “a safe house” because the authorities feared that her security could have ended.

During her detention, “the continuity of care was guaranteed,” the witness said. She was allowed to cook herself and had access to her medicines such as insulin. She also received a visit from a doctor twice. According to the prison director, attention has also been paid to “the possible suicidality of Weski”. The suspect was “emotional” and for that reason, for example, cutlery was removed.

In her cell in Zeist, Weski was once ‘bursting into crying’. She said she wanted to live for her two children. She was then offered psychological assistance. “The care was adequate and appropriate,” said the director.

Earlier this year, the Inspectorate and Security concluded that Weski’s stay in a secret location of the Judicial Institutions Department was not in accordance with the law. “She was stuck in a non -recognized and controlled place.” The prison boss said at the hearing that Weski said just before her transfer to another penitentiary institution to a nurse: “Thanks for the good care.”

Eight thousand

Hardly anything has become known about the precise nature of the suspicions against Weski two years and four months after her arrest. At the beginning of this year, it said that it was able to prove that Weski and the eldest son of Ridouan Taghi changed around eight thousand messages. The messages were sent with a Cryptot phone from SKY ECC. Weski himself was also in possession of a Sky telephone with which she could secretly communicate. Taghi’s son had stored all the messages in a digital safe that was squatted in 2022.

The OM has not yet announced anything about the nature of the messages. Justice says it has been ready for some time to deal with the criminal proceedings. The OM is of the opinion that the defense of Weski is mainly out to delay the process.

It is unclear when the substantive treatment will follow. The eight thousand messages have still not been discussed in content.
