The VISTA College will commission an external investigation into misconduct in its own educational institution.

Karel van Roosmalen, chairman of the board of VISTA College, announced this on Friday evening in the TV program L1mburg Centraal. The school management received ‘more signals’ after a former student from Heerlen aired her heart about a teacher on Facebook on Thursday.

Within VISTA in Sittard, the girl struggled for years with a teacher who eventually abused her physically and mentally, as she describes it herself. The teacher in question has been suspended, Van Roosmalen says.

According to the chairman of the board, the initial investigation into this affair was not properly conducted. Certainly now that there may be more going on, he thinks it is important to conduct a follow-up investigation. To guarantee its independence and expertise, this will be done by an external party.
