More corona cases shake the World Cup

There are also further corona cases in the Alpine Ski World Cup before the next women’s race.

The Swiss Camille Rast, Aline Danioth and Mélanie Meillard have tested positive in the past few days, as the Swiss Ski Association announced.

You are missing in the slalom on Tuesday in Zagreb. World champion Lara Gut-Behrami is still out because of a positive corona test.

In contrast, the American Mikaela Shiffrin, who was also recently infected with Covid-19, is probably back in Croatia. The exceptional racing driver apparently tested negative on Monday. “See you tomorrow, Zagreb,” wrote Shiffrin on Instagram.

Given the Omikron variant, there are likely to be more cases four weeks before the start of the Beijing Winter Olympics.

“It is only a matter of time before the infections also skyrocket among men,” said Markus Waldner, race director of the FIS World Ski Federation, most recently in an interview.

The Ski World Cup is hanging “by a thread,” said the South Tyrolean. “If we can get through to the Olympics in February and all of the world’s best athletes are at the start, then it will be a miracle.”
