More control at azc in Budel: special team of supervisors at work

A new team of four supervisors will start in and around the azc in Budel on Monday. This has been announced by the Ministry of Justice and Security. The team does not come from the municipality of Cranendonck, which includes Budel. But the supervisors are paid by the ministry. “This team is completely fresh,” says a spokesman. The same team has also been active in Ter Apel since November.

According to the ministry, the first results are promising. “The people in the team are specially trained for this,” says a spokesman. “They talk to everyone and are very visible on the street. In Ter Apel that has had a very de-escalating effect.” The team will work with all parties, such as the COA, the municipality, the azc, the residents, the entrepreneurs and the police.

The Ministry cannot yet say whether the deployment of the team in Ter Apel has also led to a decrease in the number of incidents. First the summer period is awaited. Normally, the nuisance is greater in the summer than in the winter. The area around the azc in Budel has been complaining about nuisance for years. This is mainly caused by a smaller group of ‘safe-landers’ living at the azc.

“The team will be very visible, in the center, the neighborhoods or the bus stop.”

The new team of supervisors is now also coming to Budel and the surrounding area. They are there five days a week from nine to five. But if the nuisance is mainly in the evening or at the weekend, the working hours will be adjusted. The team has no office and is constantly mobile in the municipality or at the azc.

“They are in the center, in the neighborhoods or at the bus stop, for example,” says the spokesman for the ministry. The azc in Budel has a bus stop, but it is closed. Carrier Hermes took this measure because the nuisance at the stop became too much for the drivers. The ministry does not know whether the team can ensure that the bus will run again. “That is also up to the carrier. But the team will be very visible at the bus stop.”

The new team in the vicinity of the azc is a trial that will last ten months. The cabinet has earmarked 45 million euros to deal with nuisance-causing asylum seekers. This team is part of that. The Ministry wants to remove these asylum seekers from the system as quickly as possible. “This group ruins it for the rest and undermines support for shelters for people fleeing war or persecution.”
