Mocktails: non-alcoholic drinks that are trending in Punta del Este

The “mocktails”, or non-alcoholic cocktails, are the new trend at the La Huella parador, in Jose Ignacio. The redoubt that for 20 years has been one of the most exclusive in the tin summer.

His restaurant, is characterized precisely by a kitchen linked to the local products, where the catch of the day is privileged and the salmon -farmed- is rejected, which some unsuspecting people usually ask for.

Precisely the kitchen of the place, embraces the trend of nature, with native seed plants, biodynamic harvesting in full moon phases, and a I coke with cannabis, legal for some time in Uruguay.

On the side of drinks, it is also imposed detox, in many cases avoiding alcohol and considering what is refreshing and has healing properties. In their bar they serve “soft drinks” that have been a trend for about ten years in the United States and Europe. a search for healthier drinks, without losing attractiveness, flavor and sophistication.

Jamaica’s water

Popular infusion in Central America, it is prepared with the flower of Jamaica, the Intense red hibiscus which usually serves to regulate blood pressure and prevents the onset of cardiovascular diseases.

“The hibiscus flower is boiled for about 7 minutes until it caramelizes. It is perfumed with citrus peel for two minutes, and a few cinnamon sticks are added to balance the sweetness. Is a purifying drink and with benefits for the immune system”, says bartender Carolina Fortuna.

Watermelon

Beyond the popular myth about the risks of mixing watermelon with wine, fruit with a higher amount of water logically works very well without alcohol, because this enhances rehydration.

“It is a seasonal fruit and we must take advantage of it. Here in José Ignacio we have a lot of watermelon, and there is very well with lemon juice and muscovado sugar. It is refreshing and one of the most requested non-alcoholic drinks on the beach”, endorses Fortuna.

Lemongrass

Lemongrass has been shown to reduce blood pressure and helps to overcome problems of indigestion, abdominal pain, colds and colic.

“Lemongrass gets along very well with the olive tree that abounds in the area. It’s an infusion ideal to counteract the effects of intense heat of this summer. We first dehydrate the herbs and then rehydrate them to extract the essence,” says the La Huella bartender.

grapefruit

Another ideal mocktail to combat the summer heat and thirst. It can be prepared with grapefruit juice, mint, sugar and ice, but Carolina Fortuna gives it a twist with fresh thyme, syrup and tonic water, which blend perfectly with the grapefruit.

Another secret of their drinks is a cannabis perfume, “in small amounts”, warns the bartender, which works from aromatherapy and has a mild effect.
