Mobilization to prevent 38 Beagle puppies from being euthanized after an experiment

  • The Vivotecnia laboratory, in charge of the experimentation, is in a judicial process for the crime of animal abuse for alleged bad practices in April in Madrid

next January 24, 38 Beagle puppies they could be sacrificed after experimenting with them unless public pressure prevents it.

The University of Barcelona (UB) contracted for one of its investigations the services of Vivotechnics, a laboratory that although it has a certificate of Good laboratory Practices was denounced last April by a crime of animal abuse in relation to some practices of its laboratories in Madrid after some videos were made public where the laboratory staff made fun of the suffering of animals.

The investigation, leadered by Carlota Saorsa and broadcast by the NGO Cruelty Free International, revealed how some workers insulted and beat defenseless animals. The Community of Madrid suspended the activity upon learning of the facts, and the judicial process began.

All in all, the UB Science Park has contracted the services of this laboratory through a public tender of 255,648 euros and plans to sacrifice all the puppies at the end of the experiments, according to sources of Cruelty Free International

As dictated in article 30 of RD 53/2013, of February 1, as in Directive 2010/63/EU, the animals, after the investigations, must be rehoused and given up for adoption, and it is obligatory to avoid death as the final point.

The puppies are locked in tiny cages, every day sicker and without receiving any type of medication that can calm their pain, according to animalists, who attribute tests to living beings to the laboratory without anesthesia and inflicting greater suffering unnecessary.

The dissemination of the complaint through social networks has provoked a citizen mobilization that urges the UB to cancel the sacrifice of the puppies and even the release of these animals.
